Our Lady of Grace Catholic School History
History
Beginning in 2005 with God's help, six people got together to create a Holy Catholic learning environment. It was dedicated to Our Lady of Grace, with the hope that Our Lady would always look over and guide whatever we pursued. These six people met for a year of praying, planning and more praying! The group consisted of an optometrist, a retired Kindergarten teacher, a pilot, a car salesman, and two home school mothers. A Board of Trustees was implemented and the first president of the Board of Trustees was Dr. Stephen Planchet.
Our Lady of Grace Academy opened its doors in 2006, in a little house located one block behind St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Jourdanton, Texas. Mr. Damon and Mrs. Molly Decker, two of the graciously offered the house rent free.
We began in 2006 with five Kindergarten students, six elementary students, five junior high students and one part-time home schooled student. Tish Darrow was our first Principal. Father Kazimier Oleksy was our first Spiritual Director.
Normally, a school is not sanctioned by a diocese for two or three years. At the dedication of the new St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Christine, our students were invited to sing. Archbishop Gomez heard Our Lady of Grace students sing during Mass in Latin. The sound of those beautiful young voices surprised Archbishop Gomez and Father Francis, who immediately began to sing with them. We think, consequently, this performance provided the pathway to Our Lady of Grace being sanctioned in May of the first year!
Being a Catholic School in the Archdiocese of San Antonio required preparations that would take longer than just the summer, so the school delayed beginning school until the following September. Tish Darrow was the first principal. Margie Coleman volunteered to be the second principal. The school was under her direction for four years. Our Lady of Grace was located in the CCD classrooms of St. Andrew’s Church in Pleasanton. The school was much blessed to have Father Gilberto Vallejo as the Spiritual Director.
We continued to grow under the direction of Principal Rudy Gonzales for two years.
In the summer of 2014, Joey Moczygemba took over as Principal at our Leming facility. Under his direction, the school continued to blossom.
In January of 2016, Mrs. Jeanette Geyer graciously assumed the responsibility of interim principal and played a key role in moving the school towards TCCED accreditation. In June 2016 the school was awarded accreditation status and Mrs. Jeanette Geyer signed on as the Principal of Our Lady of Grace Catholic School.
